Service Schedule for the Dormition of the Theotokos
Service Schedule for the Dormition of the Theotokos
As always, the feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos will be served with particular solemnity at Holy Trinity Monastery, including the celebration of the altar feast of the cemetery Church of the Dormition located in the "new cemetery." This year His Grace, Bishop Luke, and the monastery clergy will also serve the Lamentations of the Dormition of the Theotokos (sometimes known as the Burial Service of the Mother of God) in the monastery's cathedral as part of the festal observances. In 2017, the monastery received a gift from His Grace, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, of a burial shroud of the Theotokos. In order to worthily honor this beautiful and grace-filled icon, the brotherhood resolved to incorporate the Lamentations of the Dormition into its liturgical rule. The Lamentations mirror both in form and content the Lamentations of Great and Holy Saturday and are served every year in the Garden of Gethsemane, where the Theotokos reposed. In recent times, the Lamentations have come to be widely served in the Russian Church, including within the Church Abroad.A full schedule of services for the feast may be found below.
