Liturgy of Apostle James, Brother of the Lord
Liturgy of Saint James

ctober 23/ November 5 (NS) is the day of the commemoration of the holy Apostle James, Brother of the Lord in the flesh.   It has been the tradition on this day to serve the ancient Liturgy of the Apostle James, ever since the fathers of our church revived this liturgy in the Russian Church Abroad.

This year, the feast fell on a Sunday.  In such a case, His Grace Bishop Luke presided at the liturgy and served along with the monastery clergy.  This deeply prayerful service stands out with its Old Testament connections and the long Eucharistic canon.

Along with this, Vladyka ordained to the diaconate Subdeacon Nikolaos Kontogiannis from our parish in Rochester.  He will practice in his home parish and then begin serving in our parish in the Binghamton area.  May the Lord bless and help him and his matushka, Christina, in their new service to the Church.
