In the midst of the Dormition fast, we have the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor. All the altar coverings are changed from Lenten red to bright white, symbolizing the bright light given off by our Lord on Mount Tabor as seen by the holy apostles, Peter, James and John and the unseen light as experience as much as possible by them.
Vladyka Bishop Luke served the polyleos at the All-Night Vigil and presided at the Divine Liturgy on the feast day itself. The church was filled with faithful, including many pilgrims. At the end of the liturgy, Vladyka processed with the clergy to the entrance way of the cathedral, where tables were laden with baskets of fresh fruit, brought by the faithful to be blessed for their homes. The large basket of fruit for the monastery lunch was immediately taken to the refectory to be laid out on the tables for the brethren to enjoy on this joyous feast.
