Feast of the Opening of the Relics of Saint Job of Pochaev
Feast of the Opening of the Relics of Saint Job of Pochaev

In a recent posting, the monastery’s “All-People’s” celebration of the memory of the Venerable Job, Abbot and Wonderworker of Pochaev every year on Labor Day weekend was described.  The actual feast day, August 28 (Sept. 10, new calendar) is also celebrated, as the patronal feast of our lower church.   The All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy was celebrated by our abbot-bishop, His Grace Luke together with the monastery clergy also my with the local faithful as well as many pilgrims who are always in attendance on monastery feast days. The  new school year has started, so our seminarians, both old and new were participating.

Many of our monastery traditions go back to the Pochaev monastery in western Ukraine, of which St. Job was the first abbot.  In addition to this, the terrible war there added to the renewed persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, lend a sense of urgency to our need to ask for St. Job’s intercession for peace.

At the end of the vigil, Vladyka Luke tonsured two of our novices, Seraphim Coverdill and Nicholas Charles, to be rassophore monks.  Through the prayers of St. Job, may they be inspired to continue on the path to monasticism.

Due to the glorious late summer weather, at the end of liturgy, we served  a moleben with Cross procession around the church, with petitions to our heavenly patron, St. Job, asking for his continued prayers before the throne of God.
