As has been traditional since the tragic murder of the well-known guardian of the Montreal Myrrh-streaming Icon of Iveron in 1997, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Washington, DC has organized annual pilgrimages to the monastery on the anniversary of his death, in order to pray for his soul and to provide an opportunity for the faithful to honor his memory.
This year, the pilgrims form our nation’s capital were joined by a large group of pilgrims from Lakewood, New Jersey, as well as Brooklyn and Connecticut. Of course, these groups were joined by many others.
As usual, two pannikhidas were served, on Saturday, November 2nd upon the arrival of the group from Washington and on Sunday, the following day, before this group departed. The cathedral was filled with the faithful for the Vigil as well as the liturgy on Sunday, when His Grace Bishop Luke presided over the service. Also on this day, Nicholas Wildman, a First Year Masters of Divinity Student was tonsured a reader by Bishop Luke. May God bless his path in his service to the Church.
